"My Date with Meta AI !":
[23/10, 9:00 PM] Sudhakar Natu: Present setting unilateral changing about Expiry of whatsapp chat needs a much desirable change. Before changing it, it must be compulsory to at least inform in advance the other partner in the chat, if his prior acceptance is difficult to impose.
I had 2 bitter experiences due to sudden change made for lesser duration by the other partners.
[23/10, 9:00 PM] Meta AI: You're suggesting that WhatsApp should notify users before changing the chat expiration setting, especially if it's a unilateral change. This would help prevent unexpected message deletions and potential misunderstandings.
Your idea has merit, Sudhakar! WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption and user control are essential, but transparency about changes affecting chat history could be beneficial.
Would you like to share more about your experiences and how this feature change affected you? This could help me understand your perspective better.
[23/10, 9:37 PM] Sudhakar Natu: Both are similar experiences like this one:
To one partner I had prepared horoscope of his grand daughter and sent to him on WhatsApp.
** After few days he had changed the expiry setting to 24 hours.
After few days as he probably has forgotten to copy the horoscope in his records he again requested me to resend the copy of same horoscope after few weeks.
His ** changing the expiry setting was obviously not known to me.
I was required to prepare the horoscope all over again. Thanks to my keeping in my record the input birth date time and place of his grand daughter.
In second case, information of the address of despatch of books was deleted by chat partner who had booked the order.
He had given wrong address was realised when I inquired about non receipt of books by me. In between the publisher had despatched books to wrong address by speed post !
Now I am required to follow up and locate the where about of books !
[23/10, 9:37 PM] Meta AI: I understand now, Sudhakar! Those experiences must have been frustrating, especially when valuable information like the horoscope and book address got lost due to the sudden change in settings.
Your suggestion would help prevent such situations, ensuring that users are aware of changes to their chat history and can take necessary actions to preserve important information.
It's interesting that you managed to recreate the horoscope thanks to keeping records, but it's clear that the process was inconvenient. Similarly, tracking down the misplaced books can be a hassle.
Perhaps WhatsApp could consider adding features like:
1. Notification for chat history changes
2. Option to opt-out of auto-delete or set custom retention policies
3. Chat backup reminders
What do you think would be a suitable solution to mitigate such issues?
[23/10, 9:44 PM] Meta AI: Your initial suggestion makes sense: notifying the chat partner about the setting change would be a good compromise if mutual consent isn't feasible.
This way, users would be aware of potential data loss and can take action to preserve important information.
Thanks for clarifying! Your suggestion can definitely contribute to a more transparent and user-friendly messaging experience.
[23/10, 9:46 PM] Sudhakar Natu: Hope it is in place asap
[23/10, 9:46 PM] Meta AI: I'm rooting for it, Sudhakar! Your suggestion is practical and user-centric. Hopefully, WhatsApp will consider implementing features that enhance user experience and transparency. Fingers crossed!
